Product Description

Dead Easy Drawing
Saturday, October 6th, 12-4:30pm
Instructor: Alix Christian
You say you can’t draw? We challenge you to find out how easy it can be if you start out with a few simple lines. Some of you know local artist Alix Christian for her encaustic work, but she actually started her art career as a typographer and graphic designer. Her background is evident in the clean lines of her pen and ink images. So simple, so brilliant! We’re pleased that she’s developed a drawing class for beginners to teach her approach. The charming little project is a handmade accordion book, which you’ll make in class, that “unfolds the line”. That is, it connects simple images across the pages, one image per page. (OK – so perhaps two images per page. The idea is to keep it simple!) Alix will warm you up with plain curves, lines, and maybe a scribble or two. You’ll practice looking for the basic “bones” in the objects she brings in and will play a bit with color to see how just a touch can give your image life. Alix has examples of commonplace items that she’s drawn with just a few lines, which you can practice and copy onto the pages of your book. Or be bold and just go for it by making up line drawings of your own. Alix’s classes are always full of laughter, and she promises this one will be “dead easy”!  You’ll leave class with a brush, a permanent black pen, a small palette of watercolors, and a fun little book you’ve made yourself.

Please bring the following optional materials:

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations made up to 14 days prior to the first class meeting will be refunded or, at the participant's option, used to pay for another class. In addition, the fee for a class cancelled within this 14-day timeframe by a participant cannot be transferred to pay for another class. We reserve the right to cancel a class if fewer than 3 students enroll 48 hours prior to the scheduled class time. If for any reason Two Hands Paperie cancels a class, students will be called at the phone number on file and refunded the FULL class fee.

Instructor Bio
Alix Christian has been a tumbling tumble weed, always looking for new art adventures along the way. She grew up in Minnesota, earned a BFA in Oregon, began a graphic design career in Dallas, moved to Santa Fe to become a real artist, stayed until her money ran out, and then moved on to Amarillo where she completed an MFA and became a professor of Fine Art and Computer Graphics. She took a short jaunt to Detroit during the worst of the economic downturn (an eye-opening experience) and then. . . and then . . . landed in Colorado, where she hopes to stay for a very long time. Though now settled down Alix continues adventuring in her art. She’s played with fire to create encaustic paintings, liberally used her graphic design experience and love of type for creative art journaling, developed a distinctive style of lettering, played with layering and color in collage pieces, created 3D art with wire and rusty bits, distilled her drawings into simple lines, thrown herself into watercolors, and now focuses on largescale water medium paintings. She delights in teaching it all to others. Students can always expect a lot of laughter and fun in her classes, along with some serious attention to technique. Alix’s work has been exhibited as far south as Texas and New Mexico, in the north from Minnesota to Michigan, and across the Atlantic in Assisi, Italy.
