Elegant Envelope Book NEW! Class
Sunday, April 22nd, 1 - 4PM
Instructor: Alea Clymer
There are many, many ways to make a book from envelopes – more than we care to count! This accordion version with hard covers is one of the simplest, yet looks elegant. Alea Clymer, the assistant manager at Two Hands Paperie, has joined together colored envelopes in a way that creates an interesting pattern with the natural pockets of the envelopes. The pockets themselves are one of the delights of the structure. They’re a wonderful way to tuck away mementos, photos, hand decorated messages, and the like for a unique presentation. The pockets are also extraordinarily practical for organizing all kinds of items. Think receipts, lists, notes, ephemera gathered while traveling, or small images for collage. Alea has made two versions of her book to show you the options you have for making one of your own in class. Both versions have hard covers decorated with colorful papers. The first features pre-made envelopes; the other is made from hand folded envelopes that you can easily make in class using a template. Additional options are inlaying a small, flat-ish object on the cover and adding a ribbon closure. Such fun choices!
Please bring the following materials:
- Apron or clothes you don’t mind getting glue on.
- Craft knife (X-Acto, for example) with sharp blades
- Favorite glue stick
- Optional: flat or slightly 3-dimensional decorative accent for the front cover, no larger than 3” x 4-3/4”
- Optional: favorite pair of scissors for fine cutting.
Cancellations made up to 14 days prior to the first class meeting will be refunded or, at the participant's option, used to pay for another class. Two Hands Paperie will retain a $10 processing fee for EACH class cancelled by a participant. After 14 days, there is no refund or credit. In addition, the fee for a class cancelled within this 14-day timeframe by a participant cannot be transferred to pay for another class. These policies are to ensure that teachers are compensated for their investment in materials and in time spent preparing for the class. We reserve the right to cancel a class if fewer than 3 students enroll 48 hours prior to the scheduled class time. If for any reason Two Hands Paperie cancels a class, students will be called at the phone number on file and refunded the FULL class fee.
Alea Clymer is an artist and printmaker whose creativity was fostered by the art-integrated schools she was fortunate enough to attend while growing up in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. Her passion for art was cemented in high school during a formative summer, which she spent in Vermont studying drawing and painting at the Putney School. That experience led her to Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington, where she studied Studio Art and Printmaking and developed the foundation for her lifelong identity as an artist. Having since returned to Colorado, Alea is currently the assistant manager at Two Hands Paperie. She loves that she gets to share her enthusiasm for all things paper every single day with customers! When she’s not in the shop making colorful chalkboard signs or helping someone find the perfect fountain pen, she can be found adventuring outside or drinking tea while knitting, journaling, binding books, printmaking, writing letters to her many pen pals, or drawing. You can follow her on her creative journey on Instagram @alea_clymer.
