Hand Stitched Pocket Altar Class ONLINE
Sunday, October 25,1-4pm MDT
Instructor: Fran Meneley
Limit: 12 students. Includes class kit + shipping
Join artist Fran Meneley in making a sweet, hand-stitched Pocket Altar that requires only a few embroidery stitches. It’s a lovely project for experienced stitchers as well as an easy one for beginners. Fran was inspired to create hers by the plastic pocket altars she picked up during her travels in Mexico and New Mexico. These small devotional altars fit in a pocket or travel bag as a private reminder to owners of their connection to the divine. Fran’s interpretation is non-denominational, focusing as it does on images of the divine feminine in Mexican devotional retablos dating to the 18th century. Fran’s class has been popular in the store. The online version comes with a bonus – she’ll take you on a virtual tour of her studio, including a close look at the seasonal altar she keeps and a discussion of why she has one. The pre-class tour is a great inspiration for making your little Pocket Altar. Fran has put together a kit of materials for you to use, which includes tea dyed wool felt, beautiful wool yarn to embroidery with, embroidery needles, a button closure, and special materials for creating a small saint that’s inside the little altar. The kit will be mailed to you by Two Hands Paperie. For a list of the materials you’ll need to have on hand before the class, see the list below. We highly recommend that you treat yourself to a wonderfully creative and relaxing afternoon of stitching with Fran!
To receive your class kit in time for class, register by Oct 11 if outside Colorado or Oct 18 if in Colorado. We ship the kits via USPS Priority Mail and will email you the tracking number.
