The fountain pen offers a timeless and unique writing experience. Learn just how unique it is in this hands-on workshop that covers the basics of how to select, care for, and use a fountain pen for writing or drawing. Author and artist Janet Salmons has been using fountain pens forever. She’s written with and tested all types, so she speaks from extensive experience as she demonstrates how the choice of pen, nib, ink, and paper affects the fountain pen experience.

For a true hands-on experience, you’ll receive a paper sampler pack and a Metropolitan Pilot fountain pen that’s yours to keep. In addition you’ll receive a PDF handout that shows how to care for and troubleshoot fountain pens. The handout also includes links to online sites and resources. Janet steps you through setting up your starter pen and shows you some different styles of writing to try as you test it out. You’ll discover how fun it is to personalize messages with a favorite color and wispy or bold strokes. A keyboard is fine for quick notes or for left brain, work-a-day writing, but the pen seems to help release right brain activity – just what’s needed when recording thoughts, reflections, or insights- especially during the COVID-19 global pandemic. (To learn more about how the fountain pen seems to enhance brain processing, check out Janet’s article Academic Writing with Pen in Hand athttps://www.methodspace.com/111243-2/.) The fountain pen is a drawing tool as well and can be used together with watercolors or other media. Join Janet to learn what an enriching experience putting nib to paper can be!
