Kick-@** Snail Mail
Thursday, April 18th, 6:00-8:00pm
Instructor: Amanda McKay
Amanda McKay is a writer, a doodler, a hand-letterer, a collector of vintage postage, a pen pal, and a lifelong snail mail enthusiast. Her mission is to challenge the world to step up their snail mail game. (Snail mail, for those of you who are more familiar with text and emails, is defined as letters, postcards, and other written documents delivered by conventional postal services.) In Amanda’s enthusiastic words, “Getting a card or letter in the mail is one of the best feelings out there! And a killer envelope just takes it to the next level!” Join her for a fun time learning how to dress up your mail with some fancy hand lettering, vintage postage, washi tape, wax seals, and even more. Amanda will also be demonstrating Noodler’s invisible Blue Ghost Fountain Pen Ink. We’re thinking private notes, hidden editing marks on documents, personal watermarks – what else can you come up with?
Please bring the following materials to class:
- Favorite pens and writing tools
- Optional: notebook
- Optional: postage and your address book – in case you want to send a note right away!
Cancellations made up to 14 days prior to the first class meeting will be refunded or, at the participant's option, used to pay for another class. Two Hands Paperie will retain a $10 processing fee for EACH class cancelled by a participant. After 14 days, there is no refund or credit. In addition, the fee for a class cancelled within this 14-day timeframe by a participant cannot be transferred to pay for another class. These policies are to ensure that teachers are compensated for their investment in materials and in time spent preparing for the class. We reserve the right to cancel a class if fewer than 3 students enroll 48 hours prior to the scheduled class time. If for any reason Two Hands Paperie cancels a class, students will be called at the phone number on file and refunded the FULL class fee.
Amanda McKay says she’s not a professional anything, but is unofficially many things: a painter, a writer, a doodler, a hand-letterer, a fountain pen user, a maker-upper, a vintage postage user and collector, a pen pal, a lover of all things mint colored, a stamp-carver, and a lifelong snail mail enthusiast. She is a self-proclaimed stationery nerd (a.k.a. paper hoarder), who owns more typewriters than is necessary for one human plus more paper than she could possibly use in approximately 12 life times, and who can't stop/won't stop collecting more.
Her obsession started with an ingrained love of all things office supply and escalated quick-like. Born to two makers and do-it-yourselfers, she comes by the madness of it honestly. Mostly self-taught, Amanda is a big fan of trial and error and getting her hands dirty in the process. She opened her stationery shop Presents for Pirates in 2007, and has had an on again/off again relationship with it due to life, work, babies, and especially a lack of extra hours in each day.
Amanda haunts pen shows around the country, teaching workshops and promoting the joys of snail mail. See examples of the magic Amanda spreads via the post office at www.letterletter.com and on instagram as @letterletter.
