Making Your Mark
Sunday, February 23rd, 11:30 - 4:30pm
Instructor: Fran Meneley
Have you ever heard an inner voice whispering “I’d like to learn to draw” but it seems too daunting? Then this class, which is for novices, is for you. It’s not strictly a drawing class but more about learning how to connect with a piece of paper through sight, heart, and hand. Experienced artists may also enjoy it, though, since there’s something for everyone to explore. Fran Meneley, who’s a devoted journaler and mark maker of long standing, will lead the class in learning what it means to make marks and how the ones each person creates are unique and beautiful. She’ll start the class with images showing a wide variety of drawing and mark making examples, then will provide five exercises that will lead you to a final project or a finished piece. All materials are provided. (Those who’ve taken other classes with Fran know she has “good stuff” and brings lots to share!) The class is an exercise in experimentation, but with a guarantee that you’ll leave with a new way of looking at and connecting with a blank sheet of paper. Just come with an open heart and mind.
Please bring the following materials:
- apron- working with ink can get messy
Cancellations made up to 14 days prior to the first class meeting will be refunded or, at the participant's option, used to pay for another class. Two Hands Paperie will retain a $10 processing fee for EACH class cancelled by a participant. After 14 days, there is no refund or credit. In addition, the fee for a class cancelled within this 14-day timeframe by a participant cannot be transferred to pay for another class. These policies are to ensure that teachers are compensated for their investment in materials and in time spent preparing for the class. We reserve the right to cancel a class if fewer than 3 students enroll 48 hours prior to the scheduled class time. If for any reason Two Hands Paperie cancels a class, students will be called at the phone number on file and refunded the FULL class fee.
Fran Meneley is an artist living and working in Boulder, Colorado. She’s mad about journaling and has been at it in her studio and on the road for 20 years. A mixed media artist interested in how various media intersect, she loves to cook and eat (not in that order), travel and explore (anywhere, always), garden sporadically (in small containers), museum hop, dance (with or without a partner), teach art making, and scavenge and collect textiles and ephemera. She also facilitates an art retreat in Taos, New Mexico twice a year at the Mabel Dodge Luhan House. Fran is inspired by the intricacies and divine beauty of nature and is a lifelong learner and experimenter. In a former life she was Associate Publisher of a nationally circulated environmental magazine called Buzz worm. You can find her work on her website www.franmeneley.com and in these publications: 1,000 Artist Journal Pages by Dawn DeVries Sokol, Beaded Embellishment by Amy Clarke, 500 Beaded Objects by Lark Books, and in issues of the following magazines: Cloth Paper Scissors, Studios, and Beadwork. Her work is also in The Brooklyn Art Library’s Sketchbook Project.
