Treasure Pockets – Slow Stitching Class
Sunday, February 4th, noon - 4:00 PM
Instructor: Fran Meneley
Welcome to slow stitching! It’s a meditative stitching practice that allows you to create a sweet little embroidered piece while slowing down and feeling the rhythm of the yarn stitches. Local artist Fran Meneley calls her creations “treasure pockets”. We fell in love with these wonderful little treasures when we saw her Instagram posts. The materials are simple: a small piece of wool felt, some interesting yarn, a needle, and perhaps some beads or other small trinkets for decoration. The design can be anything. Fran has stitched birds, flowers, sacred hearts, leaves, symbols . . . whatever spoke to her heart in the moment. She’ll help you lay out a design and then will demonstrate a few basic embroidery stitches. (If you prefer to just get stitching, she’ll bring some of her own patterns.) Enjoy using your little pocket or just treasure it for what it is – the tangible result of quiet moments spent with yourself. Join Fran for a wonderfully creative and relaxing afternoon of slow stitching. Carry that feeling with you as you finish working on your treasure pocket at home. No prior experience is necessary.
Please bring the following materials:
- Small pair of sharp scissors.
- Optional: small images or pictures for inspiration. Fran will also provide some of her own.
- Optional: Yarn in favorite colors. Single ply, fingering, or line weight is best for the size pocket you’ll work on. It doesn’t take much, so bring leftovers from other projects.
Cancellations made up to 14 days prior to the first class meeting will be refunded or, at the participant's option, used to pay for another class. Two Hands Paperie will retain a $10 processing fee for EACH class cancelled by a participant. After 14 days, there is no refund or credit. In addition, the fee for a class cancelled within this 14-day timeframe by a participant cannot be transferred to pay for another class. These policies are to ensure that teachers are compensated for their investment in materials and in time spent preparing for the class. We reserve the right to cancel a class if fewer than 3 students enroll 48 hours prior to the scheduled class time. If for any reason Two Hands Paperie cancels a class, students will be called at the phone number on file and refunded the FULL class fee.
Fran Meneley is an artist, wife, and mother living on the high plains of Colorado. She's mad about journaling and has been at it in her studio and on the road for twelve years. She loves to cook and eat (not in that order), travel and explore (always, anywhere), garden sporadically (and in small containers), museum hop, blog (exploring life, travel, and art - the good stuff), dance (with or without a partner), teach art (big and tiny humans), and scavenge and collect. Fran is inspired by the intricacies and divine beauty of nature, and is a lifelong learner and experimenter. In a former life she was Associate Publisher of a nationally circulated environmental magazine called Buzzworm. You can find her work on her website: franmeneley.com and in these publications: 1,000 Artist Journal Pages by Dawn DeVries Sokol, Beaded Embellishment by Amy Clarke, 500 Beaded Objects by Lark Books, and in issues of the following magazines: Cloth Paper Scissors, Studios, and Beadwork. Her work is also in The Brooklyn Art Library's Sketchbook Project.
