Wish You Were Here – Postcards on the Go NEW! Class
Saturday, April 13th,1:00-4:00pm
Instructor: Janet Salmons.
Information overload – everyone suffers from it now that text messages and emails are inescapable. How can you break though the inbox and catch someone’s attention? With an art card and handwritten note, of course! But, we hear you asking, who has time to draw and write? The answer from local artist and author Janet Salmons is “postcards on the go”. She has a small mobile art kit she can use at the kitchen table, in the back yard, or carry anywhere, and she’ll show you her tried and true method for putting together your own. She’ll also demonstrate easy techniques for drawing and painting, in particular those for basic landscape and urban sketching. One of the benefits of making art on the go is that, instead of rushing ahead to the next destination, we have an excuse to pause in a beautiful spot, be it in a park, by someone’s garden, at a welcoming café, or sitting on a bench people watching. We become careful observers. It’s usually necessary to work quickly, which pushes us to develop our own way of drawing and painting to capture a significant aspect of our experience. It’s the special thing that we notice that’s fun to share. Think of a friend and how much it would brighten his or her day to find a bit of beauty tucked between bills and advertisements. We say grab your little art kit, get set, go!

We reserve the right to cancel a class if fewer than 3 students enroll 48 hours prior to the scheduled class time. If for any reason Two Hands Paperie cancels a class, students will be called at the phone number on file and refunded the FULL class fee.
Janet Salmons blends imagination with curiosity in an eclectic life-work mix. One minute she’s writing an academic book or blog post; the next she’s painting, art journaling, beading, or sewing. She believes that imagination, design, and expression are inspirational and therapeutic for newbies as well as experienced artists. Throughout her academic career she was an advocate for the use of visual and creative methods, and has presented and written extensively on the value of handwriting, drawing, images, and media in research and scholarly communications.
Janet has extensive professional and volunteer experience in the arts. She spent a decade directing a cultural education and outreach program at the Cornell University Center for Performing Arts, and also worked with the National Endowment for the Arts as a site reporter across the US. She served on the Boulder Ensemble Theatre Company board, the Boulder Arts Commission, including a year as chair. She’s excited to mesh her teaching expertise with her passion for engaging people creatively by teaching at Two Hands Paperie. See what Janet is up to on her website: https://vision2lead.com/create/.
