Woodcut Printmaking- Introductory Workshop
Saturdayday, November 4th, noon - 4:00PM
Instructor: Theresa Haberkorn
Woodcut printmaking is the oldest known printing method. The process is straightforward – prepare an image on a flat piece of wood and cut away unwanted areas by hand with carving gouges. It’s possible, however, to create complex and highly detailed prints with the one technique. This class is a perfect introduction to the basics of the art. Local print maker Theresa Haberkorn will show you how to plan and transfer an image to wood, then she’ll demonstrate carving techniques. Once you’re finished carving, all that’s left is inking and printing the block to complete your single-color print. No presses are needed! The woodcut prints that Theresa herself creates are simply stunning. To see examples, go to www.theresahaberkorn.com. After looking at her portfolio, click on “Printing Process” to watch a time lapse video of Theresa creating a four-foot piece in just two hours. It was for a fund raising event at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art. Astonishing!
