Magic with Stamps and Ink! NEW! In-Store Class
Saturday, September 17, 10:30-4:30pm MT
Instructor: Jone Hallmark
Limit: 7 students

Class Details:

Santa Fe artist Jone Hallmark is known for whimsical designs and little fairy tale worlds, but she also loves to work with rubber stamps. Naturally she carves her own and, Jone being Jone, some of the stamps are teensy. (Don’t worry. Yours don’t have to be that small.) Using simple designs, she carves individual stamps to create “sets” that can be combined to create patterns  or scenes. Talk about a multiplier effect! In fact, a lot of the class is about patterns and different ways to create them.

In this class, Jone shows you her techniques for designing and carving rubber stamps and then works alongside you as you make your own.  As always, she provides a hand drawn booklet with clear instructions and inspiring examples. There’s also a sheet of simple line drawings you can trace to get started. Or – she encourages this! – draw your own.

We think you’ll find it easy to make your own set of interrelated stamps by following her lead. Use the stamps for cards, envelopes, stationery, tags, journals, books – even fabric. Take your finished set home in a little papier mache box that you’ll decorate in class. Then get to work stamping!

There is a 30 minute break for snacks/lunch.

Join us in the store for Jone’s Pop-Up Shop September 14, Wednesday, 3-5pm!

    Instructor Bio

Santa Fe artist Jone Hallmark, who says of herself, “I tend to work in a two-inch square!”, has created her own little world of magical delights. Each tiny wonder – from the cleverest fox or hedgehog to a charming parade of flower-bearing young girls – is handcrafted from paper clay, wire, wood, and other tiny bits and pieces. Her sophisticated yet simple designs show the influence of both her father’s Scandinavian heritage and the intricate painted miniatures she collected when living in Switzerland. Her affinity for using small, ordinary objects comes from her mom, also a graphic designer and artist. She taught Jone that you can make just about anything you want instead of going to a store to buy it. Jone’s creative life started on the floor of her father’s studio, where she sat as a child surrounded by brushes, paints, and a treasure of paper.

Her passion for design eventually led to work developing store displays, award-winning lines of decorated papers, and the beloved Bryce and Madeline stickers. One day, after twenty years of licensing her artwork for other people’s products, Jone realized that she needed to get back to basics and simplify. In that moment, her tiny little world was born. Now she spends her time teaching, drawing, painting, and making huge messes on every available flat surface. See her work on Instagram at @jonehallmark.
