Collage Play In-Store Class

Class Details:

Whether you’ve been doing collage forever or you’re just getting started, you’ll leave this class looking at it in a whole new way. Local artist Fran Meneley, who has years of experience combining images in brilliant ways, has an approach to the art of collage that’s both intuitive and well-grounded in specific techniques. She starts the class with a few warm up exercises that provide an eye-opening example of how varied results can be, even when everyone is using the same materials. Seeing each person’s natural approach is both instructive and inspiring.

Additional exercises are fast-paced and keep you working from the right side of your brain. There’s no time for anything else! Strangely enough, working this way leads to more meaningful pieces. This is the perfect class to learn how to sort through your stash of papers – the cards, illustrations, other images, handwritten notes, theater playbills, tickets to special events, even postcards – that you love but don’t know what to do with. Fran helps you see how to create something totally new and uniquely yours from these seemingly unrelated items.

COVID SAFETY
Masks are optional and encouraged for all students and instructors. Students will be provided their own set of tools, which are sanitized between every class session. Due to the size of our class space we are unable to practice social distancing in the classroom. Class Materials

Please bring the following materials:

• 3 magazines whose images speak to you (important!), plus any images from your own stash that you would like to work with. There will also be a big box of collage materials from Fran’s collection for you to choose from.
• Optional: a journal. Most exercises will be done on paper that’s provided in class, but bring in a journal you like. It should be medium sized, with pages that are heavy enough to take some water media. Fran recommends the 9x12 inch Strathmore Mixed Media Visual Journal. (The covers on Strathmore journals are all the same despite being different sizes and containing different paper. Make sure to get the Mixed Media Visual Journal.)
• Optional: favorite scissors for cutting

Class Materials Include:

• Paper, images, scrap papers, ephemera, etc
• Glue sticks and other art supplies for students to use in class

Class Refund/Cancellation Policy

IN-STORE CLASSES: Cancellations made up to 14 days prior to the first class meeting will be refunded or, at the participant's option, used to pay for another class. Two Hands Paperie will retain a $10 processing fee for EACH class cancelled by a participant. After 14 days, there is no refund or credit. In addition, the fee for a class cancelled within this 14-day timeframe by a participant cannot be transferred to pay for another class. These policies are to ensure that teachers are compensated for their investment in materials and in time spent preparing for the class. We reserve the right to cancel a class if fewer than 3 students enroll 48 hours prior to the scheduled class time. If for any reason Two Hands Paperie cancels a class, students will be called at the phone number on file and refunded the FULL class fee.

Instructor Bio

Fran Meneley is an artist living and working in Boulder, Colorado. She’s mad about journaling and has been at it in her studio and on the road for 20 years. A mixed media artist interested in how various media intersect, she loves to cook and eat (not in that order), travel and explore (anywhere, always), garden sporadically (in small containers), museum hop, dance (with or without a partner), teach art making, and scavenge and collect textiles and ephemera. She also facilitates an art retreat in Taos, New Mexico twice a year at the Mabel Dodge Luhan House. Fran is inspired by the intricacies and divine beauty of nature and is a lifelong learner and experimenter. In a former life she was Associate Publisher of a nationally circulated environmental magazine called Buzz worm.
