Fun and Funky Hand Lettering In-Store Class

Class Details:
Get a little funky with the alphabet! Local artist and graphic designer Alix Christian is delighted to take you on a creative journey into the world of hand lettering, her style. This class has been a perennial favorite at Two Hands Paperie, and we’re happy she still loves teaching it.
Alix starts the class by demonstrating a few design basics relevant to hand lettering: line variation, horizontal and vertical spacing, basic letter shapes, color, and the like. She then introduces some very unusual writing instruments. After that, there are no rules. The fun begins as you play with letters, words, and styles, mixing them all up. It’s time to get creative with writing! Just think what it can add to your journaling and artwork.
COVID SAFETY
Masks are optional and encouraged for all students and instructors. Students will be provided their own set of tools, which are sanitized between every class session. Due to the size of our class space we are unable to practice social distancing in the classroom. The requirements for store staff and customers will follow Boulder County mask and safety mandates. Class Materials
Please bring the following materials:
- Words and short phrases – a few favorites
- Optional: colored inks with a dip pen, and/or favorite colored ink pens
- Optional: small watercolor set – 12 colors or fewer is fine
- Optional: apron
Class Materials Include:
- J. Herbin ink to use in class & ink container
- Non-bleed fine black marker
- Mixed media paper
- Stonehenge paper
- Size 2 watercolor brush
- Handmade bamboo pen, mussel shell and other
- writing instruments (coffee stirrer, for example) to experiment with
- Templates & lettering samples
- Small accordion fold book
- Envelope to address in class
Class Refund/Cancellation Policy
Cancellations made up to 14 days prior to the first class meeting will be refunded or, at the participant's option, used to pay for another class. Two Hands Paperie will retain a $10 processing fee for EACH class cancelled by a participant. After 14 days, there is no refund or credit. In addition, the fee for a class cancelled within this 14-day timeframe by a participant cannot be transferred to pay for another class. These policies are to ensure that teachers are compensated for their investment in materials and in time spent preparing for the class. We reserve the right to cancel a class if fewer than 3 students enroll 48 hours prior to the scheduled class time. If for any reason Two Hands Paperie cancels a class, students will be called at the phone number on file and refunded the FULL class fee.
Instructor Bio
Alix Christian likes to play with fire. She's an encaustic artist who mixes beeswax and tree resin with pigmented colors, then heats the layers with a blow torch. Alix earned her BFA in Portland, Oregon, and her MFA in West Texas. Her work has been exhibited as far south as Texas and New Mexico, north from Minnesota to Michigan, and across the Atlantic in Assisi, Italy. Alix taught Fine Art and Computer Graphics at Amarillo College for seven years, and has resided in Colorado since 2010.
