Jessica Swift, an Oregon-based artist, believes that art has the power to heal. During a dark time of loss, making intuitive art helped her process her feelings. She turned to drawing for comfort and to occupy her mind. An amazing thing happened – the more intuitively she worked the more she healed and changed. Jessica realized that the process was the key: quieting the “busyness” of her mind, listening to her intuitive inner self, and translating those messages into images. This class, then, is less about art making and more about using art for self-care in times of stress, change, uncertainty, grief, and fear. You don’t have to be an “Artist” – just willing to spend time quietly with yourself creating without judging. Follow the process and connect with your wise and powerful inner self. Trust her. It’s there.
Jessica and Two Hands Paperie have collaborated to produce a customized guided journal/workbook for the class. The workbook includes prompts, exercises, and blank pages, which Jessica guides you through during class. You can work in any medium you’d like, but Jessica suggests that you choose something that feels fun, easy, and familiar. See the materials list for suggestions.
There’s so much to be gained from giving yourself the gift of time and space each day to connect with your intuitive self. Listen to what your wise inner voice wants you to know and then honor it by acknowledging and expressing it. Join Jessica for this class and experience the magically uplifting power of art!
This online class will be recorded and made available to class participants for 10 days after the class.
Please bring the following materials:
- Pencil & eraser
- Optional: Basic drawing materials are provided in the kit, but feel free to gather favorite materials to use in the workbook. Work in any medium, but choose something that feels fun, easy, and familiar since a new medium can be a barrier. Also, limit what you gather. Fewer choices mean less to think about, which means more time doing. If you’re a novice, here are some simple ideas to get started: Drawing: colored pencils, black/colored pens, markers, etc. Painting: small paint set and one or two brushes (one round, one flat). Collaging: a small stash of paper to cut or tear up, such as magazines, books, decorated paper, calendar pages, or advertisements. A glue stick, such as Uhu, or other glue you like to work with.
- Optional: Copy paper or similar if you’d like to practice some things outside of the workbook.
Class Kit Includes:
- Magically Uplifting Art guided journal/workbook
- Black drawing/doodling pen
Gel pen & metallic pen
- Paint pen
- Small paper scrap pack
