A Modern Twist on Monoline Lettering NEW! In-Store Class
Friday, May 12, 11am-4pm
Instructor: Renee Jorgensen
Limit: 6 students
Class Details:
Monoline lettering is a simple alphabet where all the lines have equal weight. That is, each letter has the same thickness from start to finish with no variation in width and no contrast from thick to thin. One of the more modern styles of lettering, monoline is an unpretentious, friendly script that’s easy to learn and very adaptable.
We like this modern twist done by Renee Jorgensen, a local artist who teaches drawing and illustration at the Denver Botanic Gardens in their School of Botanical Art and Illustration. Renee’s example, which looks like stained glass, is created on black paper with color pencils. It looks lovely when framed.
Join her for a little coloring fun as you overlap letters and practice making a jewel-toned alphabet with monoline pens. It’s simple, it’s fun, it’s colorful – what’s not to like! Renee also shows you other fun ways to use the technique.

Instructor Bio
Renee Jorgensen is an artist and illustrator with degrees and certifications in commercial art, graphic design, and botanical illustration. She’s also certified as an American Cursive Handwriting instructor. In addition, Renee has studied various forms of calligraphy. She has a particular reverence for the art of Medieval Illumination, which inspired her to develop her own modern style of the traditional illuminated alphabet. It’s not surprising that she combines her love of nature and the written word in the classes she teaches throughout the wider Denver area! As an instructor on the staff of the Denver School of Botanical Art and Illustration in Denver, Colorado, she offers classes in illustration, modern illumination, and calligraphy. In 2017, she was one of eight instructors, each submitting individual entries in the group category for the annual botanical art show held in London by the Royal Horticultural Society. They received a Group Gold Medal Award. Renee’s art is enjoyed in private collections and a variety of publications for gardening communities.
