Pomegranate "The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone" 1000 Piece Puzzle by Thomas Moran

Thomas Moran (1837–1926) was the premier painter of the American West; his geological epics are the standard by which all other efforts to capture natural drama must be judged. In 1871, Moran accompanied a survey party in Montana’s Yellowstone region led by Dr. Ferdinand V. Hayden for the United States Geological Survey. The survey both an adventure and an important scientific project. The group traveled through the region on horseback, and Moran often had only a brief period of time to capture his impressions of a site in a quick pencil sketch. When they returned to camp, he would add a small amount of color to his sketches. Moran’s watercolors and paintings were instrumental in convincing Congress to establish Yellowstone as the first national park of the United States in 1872. Thirty years after his first trip to Yellowstone, Moran completed his painting The Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone, painting it during the years 1893–1901. The original oil on canvas measures 96 1/2 by 168 3/8 inches.
