Hands-On Fountain Pens In-Store Class
Saturday, March 8, 2-4pm
Instructor: Janet Salmons
Limit: 7 students. All participants must be 15 years or older.

Class Details

Writing with a fountain pen is a timeless and unique experience. In this hands-on workshop, author and artist Janet Salmons invites you to get a feeling for it. She covers the basics of how to select, care for, and use a fountain pen for writing or for drawing. Janet collects fountain pens, has been using them forever, and has written with and tested all types. She speaks from extensive experience as she demonstrates how the choice of pen, nib, ink, and paper affects writing with a fountain pen.

For a truly hands-on experience, we give you a Pilot Metropolitan fountain pen plus a paper sampler pack. Janet steps you through setting up your starter pen during class, then shows you some different styles of writing to try as you test it out. She also goes over her handout on how to care for and troubleshoot fountain pens.

Though writing by hand is a pleasure in and of itself, there's more to it than that. A keyboard is fine for quick notes or for left brain, work-a-day writing, but writing with a fountain pen seems to help release right brain activity – just what’s needed when recording thoughts, reflections, or insights. A fountain pen is also a drawing tool that works with watercolors and other media.

Join Janet to learn what an enriching experience putting nib to paper can be!

Loved it!

I loved this fountain pen class as an intro to the medium. The package arrived, thoughtfully wrapped, and was a joy to open and work with. The class was a great size. Would gladly take another class like this.
