Metal Embossing - Sacred Heart NEW! In-Store Class Feb 8
Metal Embossing - Sacred Heart NEW! In-Store Class
Saturday, February 8, 10:30am-1:30pm
Instructor: Mia Semingson
Limit: 6 students. All participants must be 15 years or older.
Class Details
Learn how to emboss metal with Mia Semingson, an artist and co-owner of Two Hands Paperie, and see just how transformative and flexible metal can be. Mia was inspired by traditional Mexican tin art to create a Sacred Heart; it’s a widely recognized symbol that represents love, healing, and gratitude. She’s collected Sacred Hearts in various forms over the years, and has images and patterns for you to use in creating your own version.
Mia begins class by demonstrating how to transfer a paper template to a thin metal sheet, then how to push and pull the metal to create embossed textures and designs. Tools are provided for use in class, but Mia points out substitutes you can use. (You might already have them at home.)
She then demonstrates how to add touches of color to the metal with alcohol ink. Experiment with the tools and paints on a metal test strip before deciding on a design for your own Sacred Heart. Use one of the provided templates or (greatly encouraged!!) design your own. By the end of class you’ll have the knowledge and skills to create all kinds of tin art at home. Not bad for a few hours of work!
If you can’t make it to the store, check out Mia’s class “Decorative Metal Embossing” on creativebug.
