Class Details
In the world of collage, visual elements are liberated from their original contexts and thoughtfully combined to create entirely new visual narratives. Join Mia Semingson, co-owner of Two Hands Paperie and collage enthusiast, as you explore and develop your own distinctive visual language through this dynamic medium. Collage transcends the simple act of adhering paper to a surface. It's a sophisticated form of visual communication—a way to express complex ideas with imagination and intention while channeling your artistic intuition. In this class, Mia shares her own creative evolution alongside the work of influential artists, emphasizing the power of developing a cohesive body of work through sustained practice and experimentation. Through hands-on creative exercises, you'll expand your collage toolkit with innovative materials and techniques: metal leafing foil for luminous accents, paper piercing for dimensional texture, and methods for creating your own patterned papers to integrate into your compositions. Mia demonstrates how these diverse materials—from found papers to specialty surfaces—can be layered and combined to strengthen your artistic voice. You'll leave with a curated sample deck of inspiration and practical resources, plus the skills and confidence to elevate your collage practice.
While prior collage experience is beneficial, this class welcomes artists of all skill levels.
