Block Printing - the Birds & the Bees NEW! In-Store Class
Saturday, May 11, 1-4pm
Instructor: Theresa Haberkorn
Limit: 6 students. All participants must be 15 years or older.

Class Details:

Birds building their nests and bees buzzing from flower to flower – what glorious messengers for the lovely month of May! They’re featured in this newest block printing class from printmaker Theresa Haberkorn. Block printing is an easy-to-learn process that can be used to create simple images as well as highly detailed, complex prints. This introductory class with Theresa is a great introduction to printmaking for novices. They, as well as more experienced students, benefit from her over 20 years of experience creating beautiful, award winning prints.

Theresa starts class by talking about tools and design considerations, then demonstrates how to transfer an image to a linoleum block and how to use the carving tools to achieve different effects. She also covers how to ink the block for a good print.

There are some photos of birds and bees for you to use for reference, but Theresa encourages you to invent your own magical, fantastical design. Enjoy printing multiple copies with the two portable hand presses that Theresa brings. Keep the black and white images as is or color them later with paints or pens. Use them for cards, frame them, or cut them out and make a fun display on your wall. The carving tools are yours to take home.
